Personal Development, Transformative Practice, and Strengthened Community through Teacher Research
Diana Dansereau, Members of the NAfME ECM SRIG ,
Reflective practitioners engage in continuous information gathering in order to make decisions about pedagogy and curriculum. This process can be very informal in nature or more systematic, as when we intentionally collect data to determine the efficacy of an approach. The purpose of this session is to explore the ways that teachers engage in planned research aimed at understanding experiences and deepening practice. We will begin by noticing themes and trends in early childhood music education research using the NAfME Early Childhood Music Special Research Interest Group sessions presented at the convention as a framework. We will then discuss various approaches to engaging in classroom-based research, brainstorm additional topics that can be addressed, explore the potential benefits of collaboration, and outline initial steps of planning a study. The session will include opportunities to share ideas and forge connections with others who have similar interests.
