How Far I'll Go
Discover creative and playful ways to incorporate popular children's media into the early childhood general music classroom. This workshop serves to provide teachers with an array of musical activities and ideas which utilize the current and popular media culture of their students. Attendees will be guided through a sequence of musical experiences designed around the popular Disney film "Moana" including beat exploration, echo singing, movement for form and expression, composers, and pitch exploration. In addition, music and characters from the movies "Mission Impossible", "Coco", and more will provide the basis for musical experiences in movement, composition, and song tales.
Kody Andreas is a graduate of the Crane School of Music having earned a Bachelors in Music Education with concentrations in voice, early childhood music, and special education music. In addition, he holds an A.A.S. in Music from Orange County Community College. Kody’s has been awarded over twenty-two scholarships and academic awards including the prestigious Suny Potsdam Faculty Award. This award is presented to the graduate who has attained the highest gpa in their class as a transfer student. While at Crane, Kody was selected as a student conductor for the Potsdam Community Chorus, academic tutor, private voice instructor, and workshop presenter for the American Choral Director’s Association student chapter. He served as an E-Board member for the American Choral Director’s Association (President, Vice-President, and Treasurer), Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity (Secretary, Treasurer, Community Service, and Fundraising chair), and was a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Order of Omega, and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies. Kody student taught in the Minisink Valley School District where he gained experiences teaching elementary general music and choir (K-5) as well as various high school choral ensembles (grades 9-12). His concentration in early childhood music allowed him to teach a preschool music class for a full year at the Suny Potsdam Childcare Center. In addition, this experience has inspired him to teach Mommy and Me caregiver music classes privately. Kody currently teaches kindergarten through second grade general music at Nassau Elementary in the Spackenkill School District.
