Healthy Snacks for your Musical Mind
Participants will engage their musicianship as they dive into a steady stream of imaginative musical experiences. Participants will travel through a variety of musical contexts, immersed in a aurally and kinesthetical. This session is designed to build the musicianship of participants while also offering original songs and chants appropriate for the early childhood music classroom. This workshop is designed to strengthen the musicianship and sense of play within its participants through imaginative engagement in a variety of tonalities and meters, while offering many pieces suitable for use in the early childhood music classroom. The purpose is to strengthen each practitioner’s ability to create a musically-rich environment where young music learners can absorb and build strong listening vocabularies.
James M. DesJardins teaches music in the Frontier CSD. He holds certifications in Orff-Schulwerk and Music Learning Theory, and he is a registered Music Together teacher. Mr. DesJardins is highly involved in Western New York’s music education community. He has served as a board member for the Western New York Orff-Schulwerk Association and is currently the Classroom Music Festival Co-Chair for the Erie County Music Educators Association. He has adjudicated Honors Ensemble auditions for Erie and Niagara counties and has conducted Area All-State and All-County honors choruses throughout New York and Pennsylvania. He has presented for WNYOSA, at the ECMEA Classroom Music Festival, ECMEA Professional Development Conference, and at the NYSSMA Winter and Summer conferences. He has guest lectured at SUNY Fredonia. And he teaches early childhood classes through Betty’s Music Together. Mr. DesJardins remains active in many creative endeavors. He is a published composer/arranger with Carl Fischer Music and Boosey and Hawkes. He serves as composer in residence for the Buffalo Niagara Youth Chorus.
