Dr. Beatriz AguilarJuguemos a cantar Attendees to this workshop,which will be provided in English,will learn Hispanic early childhood songs and rhymes, and discuss the cultural and pedagogical content of each example. The songs and rhymes will be presented in an age-appropriate order, starting with songs and rhymes appropriate for babies, and ending with songs and games appropriate for K-1.Within this order,the songs and games will be grouped according to their musical content,and the characteristics of the Hispanic culture this content reflects. Handouts will include the scores for most examples used during the presentation,as well as a list of suggested resources. It is possible that I will have a CD ready for distribution during this presentation.Session Objectives1. Learn song and rhyme repertoire from Hispanic heritage 2. Learn appropriate pronunciation of Spanish songs and rhymesBio:Dr. Beatriz Aguilar is associate professor at Edgewood College,in Madison,WI,where she teaches courses related to general music education. She is also in charge of an Early Childhood Music Program in Janesville,WI,where she teaches babies and toddlers from 0 to 48 months of age.Dr. Aguilar has a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She received a MME and a PhD in music education from the University of North Texas,where she also specialized in early childhood music education and was a certified as Kodály music educator. Dr. Aguilar has presented at various conferences in the US and in Mexico. She has also put together a collection of Hispanic songs and games for children with musical and extra-musical analyses and pedagogical recommendations for each of them,and is currently working on its publication. | |
